18th September saw the first meeting of the KISC group Matilda will be part of - Explorers 1. This was the first time I had the opportunity to meet new leaders and scouts from across Hereford and Worcester for a while. Happily both Matilda and I recognised a few faces which is always a relief.
The day was well structured and organised by Ros and the other leaders. a warm welcome followed by a rotation through 4 bases. The Explorers (some still Scouts, but Explorers when we leave for our Kandersteg trip in 2024) were split into 4 groups with designated leaders and deputies.
The 4 bases included
A strategic problem solving mission - transporting a group with limited resources across an area, whilst the person in transit was continually 'off the ground'.
Guess the object - where the scouts needed to use their communication and descriptive skills, as well as their guessing skills.
Emergency Info - The scouts needed to remember and record emergency information. Essential when travelling!
Quack the Duck - This was voted favourite during feedback time. The scouts were given resources and had to create a bridge for the duckies to be rescued from one side of a ditch to the other. They tested and completed this task using water to move the ducks across the bridge. This may have led to a small but mighty water-fight!
During the day various sub-camp names were suggested by the various groups and discussed with peers and leaders. After the activites were completed a vote was undertaken and a name was agreed upon! Fondue Fighters! (Like Foo Fighters, not like Kung-fu Fighters!).
I'm awaiting permission to upload the photos - but the Scouts / Explorers played various games including a whole camp tug-of-war and a YL-lead game of 40-40 back to base.
Any updates or mistakes, please let me know!
